Bank BPTN is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation which owns 88.53% of its shares. Bank BPTN's complete shareholder structure can be accessed here.

Bank BTPN was founded in 1958, originally as Bank Pegawai Pensiunan Militer (BAPEMIL), to handle Indonesian military pension funds. The bank developed deposit and loan services for military veterans and converted to a commercial bank in 1960. In May 2013, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) acquired a 24.26% stake in BTPN. In February 2019, BTPN merged with Bank Sumitomo Mitsui Indonesia, and became a consolidated subsidiary of SMBC.

Bank BTPN offers financial services for the lower-income segment, which is comprised of pensioners, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as productive poor communities (mass market).
